The Professional Darts Corporation has been forced into an emergency rule change just days before the World Championship finals, after teenage star Luke Littler became the subject of explosive cheating allegations. The controversy erupted following Littler’s quarter-final victory, when a viral video appeared to show the 17-year-old glancing toward a member of his entourage moments before hitting a crucial 164 checkout. While the PDC has found no evidence of wrongdoing, pundits and fans have questioned whether Littler was receiving illegal out-chart signals from the crowd.
In response, the PDC announced an immediate integrity directive banning players from making intentional eye-contact with spectators during a throw. Support teams have also been moved to a designated area outside the player’s peripheral vision, and fans holding digital devices or whiteboards in the front rows will now be removed. An emotional Littler denied the allegations fiercely, insisting his glances were simply a nervous tic. “I look at my dad because I’m 17 and nervous, not because he’s giving me a math lesson,” he said. PDC chief Matt Porter stated the rule change was not a punishment but a necessary step to protect the sport’s integrity, adding that from now on, “the only thing a player looks at is the board.” Littler faces defending champion Michael Smith in the semi-finals tonight.
