Luke Humphries sparks outrage by admitting he has always questioned the authenticity of Luke Littler’s wins

The world of professional darts has been rocked by controversy after reigning world champion Luke Humphries openly admitted in an interview that he has “always questioned the authenticity” of teenage sensation Luke Littler’s tournament victories.

Speaking on a popular darts podcast released Monday, Humphries did not hold back. When asked about his 19-year-old rival’s meteoric rise—which includes multiple PDC titles and a run to the World Championship final—Humphries replied, “I’ll be honest: something has never sat right with me. I’ve always questioned the authenticity of some of Luke’s biggest wins.”

The 29-year-old stopped short of making a direct accusation of cheating, but implied that inconsistencies in Littler’s rapid ascent warrant scrutiny. “The composure, the sudden leaps in scoring under pressure—it doesn’t always add up when you look at the natural progression of a player,” Humphries said. “I’m not saying he’s doing anything illegal. I’m saying I have doubts.”

Within hours, the darts community erupted in outrage. Fans flooded social media with demands for Humphries to either provide evidence or retract his statement, while fellow professionals expressed disbelief.

“That’s a dangerous thing to say without proof,” said former world champion Michael Smith. “Luke Littler is 17. He’s brought thousands of new fans to our sport. To question his integrity like that publicly? Out of order.”

Littler’s manager released a brief statement: “Luke Littler has passed all PDC drug tests and equipment checks. His wins have been on live television, in front of crowds and cameras. These baseless insinuations are deeply unprofessional.”

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) confirmed it is reviewing Humphries’ comments, noting that “unsubstantiated claims against a player’s integrity are taken very seriously.”

Humphries has since attempted to clarify his remarks, tweeting that he “meant no direct accusation” and was merely discussing “the natural skepticism top athletes feel.” However, the damage appeared done, with calls growing for a formal PDC investigation into his conduct.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Luke Littler himself had not commented publicly, but sources close to the teenager say he is “hurt and bewildered” by the remarks from a player he has long admired.
