In a sensational and explosive press conference ahead of tonight’s Premier League Darts finale, veteran star Jonny Clayton has launched a blistering accusation at teenage sensation Luke Littler, claiming the 19 year-old prodigy is attempting to “cheat his way” to the title – while promising to triumph “regardless.”
Speaking to a stunned media scrum at the O2 Arena, a visibly fired-up Clayton did not hold back. “You can watch him all you like. Watch Littler try every trick in the book to steal this title. The slow walk-offs. The fake sneezes during someone’s throw. That little ‘accidental’ nudge of the scoreboard. But I’ll win regardless,” said the Welshman, gripping his darts with white knuckles.
Clayton stopped short of providing hard evidence, but pointed to recent matches where Littler allegedly celebrated prematurely, “lost” his flight just as an opponent was about to throw for a double, and once reportedly adjusted the lighting with his phone app from the oche.
“He’s clever, I’ll give him that. You don’t see it unless you’re looking,” Clayton added. “But I’ve been around too long. Tonight, I’m not just playing darts. I’m playing a detective’s game.”
Littler, who has taken the darting world by storm this season, dismissed the claims with a smirk. “Cheating? I’m 19. I can only buy a beer to celebrate my 180s. The only thing I’m guilty of is making Jonny miss his afternoon nap,” the teenager quipped.
PDC officials have declined to comment, though a source confirmed they would deploy an extra match referee and position a camera “unusually close” to the scoreboard.
Fans are divided. “Clayton’s lost his head,” said one supporter. Another added, “If Littler sneezes on a double-16, I’m calling the police.”
Regardless of the truth, one thing is certain: the Premier League final has become must-watch television – for the arrows, and the alleged antics.
