MK Dons have joined the race to sign Forest Green Rovers midfielder Charlie McCann this summer, as per Football Insider.
MK Dons finished inside the top six of League Two last season.
However, they were beaten comfortably by Crawley Town across a two-legged semi-final. The Dons lost 8-1 on aggregate and therefore will be playing fourth-tier football again this season.
Mike Williamson has the luxury now of having his first summer in charge at the club with the former Gateshead boss getting an opportunity to put his plans into practice.
McCann, 22, played 41 league games for Forest Green Rovers last season. The defensive midfielder scored four goals and assisted a further two in League Two.
His side finished bottom of the league and McCann is thought to be keen to leave to stay at League Two level with MK Dons the latest club linked with him this summer.
A solid addition
The young midfielder started his career in Manchester United’s academy.
He then moved to Rangers spending most of his time playing for their B team before eventually making the switch back over to England.
He has only played one full season in League Two, but he is more than capable of performing at this level and it’s no surprise he wants to stay in the fourth tier next season.
Building something exciting
Williamson was praised highly for the work he did at Gateshead.
The former Newcastle United defender got his move to MK Dons last October and he has won 20 of his 38 games at the helm so far.
Promotion is a definite possibility next season and with a full summer behind him, Williamson will be hoping to hit the ground running next season.
The fixtures are released later this morning and it will be interesting to see how their season starts as they look to make their mark on the fourth tier from the first whistle.
