The Canadiens did not create much of a splash when the NHL free-agent market began at noon on Monday. Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes made a small move around 2 p.m., signing forward Alex Barré-Boulet to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000. Barré-Boulet, 27, has a 6-3-9 record in 36 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning previous season. The Montmagny native also recorded 4-15-19 totals in 23 games for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch. The 5-foot-10, 178-pounder was never taken in the NHL Draft. In his final junior season with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL in 2017-18, he went 53-63-116 in 65 games.
