MOTHERWELL are in the money after selling Theo Bair to Auxerre.
The Steelmen held out for a £1.4m fee from the French side to take the Canadian international to Ligue 1.
And Stuart Kettlewell is poised to re-invest some of his profits in a new striker.
The new man will be tasked with filling in for the Canadian who fired 15 goals in one season at Fir Park.
But he hit 17 goals himself last season.
Like Bair, the recruit has international honours to his name too.
But on the other side of the world.
Now Well is closing in on Australian international striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos in a £260,000 deal.
His club Down Under said: “Newcastle Jets can confirm the departure of striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos to a European club for an undisclosed fee.
“The Club have allowed him to pursue this opportunity to further increase his chances of selection for the Socceroos ahead of their upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches.”
Newcastle Jets CEO Shane Mattiske said: “Apostolos heads to Europe with our best wishes.
“We understand that for him to push for selection for the Socceroos squad for the 2026 World Cup, he needs to be playing consistently in the coming months and that aligns with the European schedule.
“We’re proud of his development at the Jets over the past season.”
Stamatelopoulos joined the Jets in 2021 from Western United and had spells at Greek clubs A. E. Rodos and PAS Giannina.
He returned Down Under in 2023 and scored 17 goals in 25 league matches, breaking the club record for most goals in an A-League season.
He played in the A-League All Stars match against Newcastle United in May, scoring two goals in a shock 8-0 win.
That saw him rewarded with selection in Graham Arnold’s Aussie squad for their World Cup qualifying matches against Bangladesh and Palestine.
He made his Socceroos debut against Palestine in Perth last month as a second-half sub.
Kettlewell admitted after Saturday’s win over Clyde that he was close to bringing in a new frontman.
He said: “We’re well down the road making something happen in the striker position.
“I’d like to bring a slightly different dimension to the front end of the pitch.”
Well, have already signed defender Johnny Koutroumbis from the A-League this summer.
The duo follow several stars from Down Under making the move to the SPFL – like Kye Rowles, Cammy Devlin, Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus.
And Greek-Aussies haven’t done too badly on these shores either given Ange Postecoglou’s five trophies from two years as Celtic boss.
