Striker Giorgos Giakoumakis who spent 18 months in Glasgow under Ange Postecoglou, has left Atlanta United after just a year and a half to join Mexican top-tier club Cruz Azul. The 29-year-old has gone to Central America following a successful run in the MLS, at least in terms of goalscoring. Giakoumakis did not win any championships with Atlanta, although he did score 24 goals and set up five in 43 games for the team. He leaves the United States after making an impact in the MLS, but his new move confirms his reputation as a journeyman. Azul is Giakoumakis’ third new club in three years, yet he continues to score, and the move does not appear to faze him.
