Sam Ehlinger, an Austin native and former University of Texas quarterback, has signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos to enhance their quarterback depth.
Early Life and College Career
Born and raised in Austin, Ehlinger attended Westlake High School, where he set state records for passing yards and touchdowns, solidifying his status as a top quarterback prospect. He committed to the University of Texas, where he started for four seasons (2017-2020). Over his collegiate career, Ehlinger amassed 11,436 passing yards, 94 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,903 yards with 33 touchdowns. He led the Longhorns to multiple bowl victories, including a win against Georgia in the 2019 Sugar 
Transition to the NFL
After his senior year, Ehlinger declared for the 2021 NFL Draft and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round (218th overall). In April 2025, the Denver Broncos signed Ehlinger to a one-year contract to bolster their quarterback roster. The terms of the contract were not disclosed. Ehlinger joins starting quarterback Bo Nix and veteran Jarrett Stidham on the Broncos’ depth chart. The team is looking to solidify its quarterback position after Zach Wilson’s departure to the Miami Dolphins in March.
