Charlie Mulgrew, a former Celtic great, is a ‘proud’ man after watching his son sign a deal with his old club. Mulgrew, who played 134 league games for the Hoops between 2010 and 2016, announced his retirement earlier this year to join Doncaster City, although he is now reportedly searching for possibilities as a coach. In the meantime, his son Joshua has signed his first professional deal with Celtic. “Proud of you, Joshua Mulgrew,” Mulgrew senior wrote on Instagram. During his career at Celtic, the midfielder won five Scottish Premiership titles and two Scottish Cups. He later played for Blackburn Rovers and Dundee United, and he earned 44 caps for Scotland atthe senior level.
Mulgrew announced his retirement last year, saying in a statement, “Today I’m retiring from professional football. It’s not an easy decision because football is all I know. First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support, belief, devotion, and love throughout the past 21 years. You all have to make sacrifices to help me achieve my dream. Thank you to all eight clubs I played for, as well as the Scotland national team for which I played 44 times. I am grateful for everything I have learnt and the life I have been able to establish as a result of them. My recollections are valuable. I’ve played alongside and against some fantastic players, some of whom I’m fortunate to call friends.
