Lennon Miller has shrugged off transfer speculation as he heads into Motherwell’s season feeling confident.
The gifted midfielder, 17, was a leading star of the Steelmen last year along with the likes of departed duo Blair Spittal and Theo Bair, his displays in the engine room belying his tender years. He was nominated for the Premiership young player of the year awards with big things expected from his future.
Along with all those accolades usually comes transfer talk and interest from other clubs when you’re performing like that at such a young age. Rangers have been strongly linked to make a move and Football Scotlandrevealed there have been Ibrox scouts watching Miller in pre-season.
He’s not paying attention to any of that and insists he will continue to focus on doing the business on the park.
The Scotland under-21s man said: “When you are doing well at a young age then you are going to get speculation. But for me it’s just about focusing on a Saturday or any game that we play, and doing the best I can.
“Playing games is going to come with confidence, and scoring the odd goal is going to boost that as well, so I’m feeling confident.”
When it was mentioned to him that he’s now playing with an authority beyond his years, Miller added: “That has come probably from the start of this season. Last season, I was probably kind of tentative like a wee boy, but I feel like this season I have kind of grown up and I have got the leadership skills.
“It can be hard to show that as a young boy coming into the first team, it’s tough because there are so many experienced players there and you are a young boy. But they all respect the young boys, and as a young boy you need to help them as well as them helping you.”
